Dry Shampoo

I wanted to share with you a new product on my shelf. I recently picked up Schwarzkopf's got2b rocking it dry shampoo ($3.99 on sale) and I have to say I am quite impressed. Not only does this product help put life back into my second day hair, but the smell is not crazy overpowering like many other dry shampoo's I have tried. So far I am really happy with this product, it does what it says it does and it leaves my hair feeling refreshed.

I prefer Schwarzkopf's over Tresemme and Dove's dry shampoo. What is your go-to dry shampoo?

Looking to snag a few extra zzzz's in the morning? Grab this, skip the shower and your good to go!

Lush Shampoo and Conditioner

I recently ventured into the world of Lush hair care. On a mission to find natural and healthier hair products I did some research and decided to give my good friends at Lush a chance. They have many choices and they all smelled amazing but I decided to go with Blousey Shampoo and Veganese Conditioner. (click here for other products I purchased)

Lush Shampoo and Conditioner

The smell of Blousey alone was enough to send me running with it to the cash. It smells so good. My kids really love it too. This particular formula is a gentle, non-stripping shampoo for all hair types, processed (like moi), damaged (like moi) and natural. The consistency takes a bit to get used to, it is definitely not your "moms" shampoo if you know what I mean. The first ingredient listed in it is banana and this is exactly what the consistency is like, mashed banana.
Lush Blousey Shampoo

I apply this to my roots and  gently work into a lather. I rinse and repeat working it into the ends of my hair slightly (although I do mainly focus on the roots).

I also purchased the Veganese Conditioner from Lush. This is their lightest conditioner and it is formulated for all hair types. It has a nice light fresh lemon scent and contains rosemary and lavender that helps sooth the scalp and lemon oil and seaweed for shine.
I wasn't really expecting  much volume and shine from a natural product but this shampoo and conditioner have proved me wrong. The results are soft, pleasantly scented, manageable and volumized hair.

Will I purchase this again? Oh yeah! Although I do have Lush BIG sea salt shampoo on my wish list as well.
Have you tried any lush shampoos or conditioners?

Signing off for a few!

I just love Summer! I think I may have mentioned that a few times in the last month or so (wink). I am not a huge fan of the cold weather so I enjoy every second of the warmth and sunshine while it's here.  I am taking a few days off from the blog to spend some quality time with family we have not seen in far too long!  They flew in last night and I cannot tell you how excited we all are!

I wanted to leave you with a little Summer inspiration.

With the weather being a bit humid  I like to get my hair out my face and off my neck. I have attempted this double bun twice now. It's easier then it looks. Just separate your hair into two sections (top and bottom). Make two pony tails, one on top of the other.  Take each ponytail and wrap it around the base using several bobby pins to keep it in place. Repeat these steps with the second ponytail and VOILA! Give it a good spray and your good to go.

My other favorite is my hat. Nothing says summer and beach like this puppie!

Fashionable yet functional!

Stay Home Days

My daughters and I have got into the habit of calling weekends "stay home days". When the  girls were younger they would have trouble with the names and days of the week so,"stay home days" just stuck.

The girls and I have enjoyed a week long stretch of "stay home days" as I am taking some vacation time. We have been having fun going to the beach and enjoying  lots of ice cream. I can't believe the week is almost over though. Time sure flies when your having fun!

I thoroughly enjoyed staying super casual this week with minimal makeup and with what my daughter called this morning "messy hair". Little does she know I am actually attempting the beach kissed hair look, ha ha.

I have been achieving this "messy" look by washing my hair at night and letting it air dry a bit. Once it is just a bit damp I put it into a french braid and sleep on it all night. In the morning, I take out the braid and run my fingers through it. I then use a comb to tease my roots a bit to add a  little volume at the base. I then distribute a few sprays of Lush Sea Spray throughout my hair.  I kind of scrunch it in with my hands and this is what I get, fuss-free easy hair that only gets better as the day goes on (wink).

Wishing you all many lovely "stay home days"!

Try This, Not This!

Here a few products that did not measure up to there competitor.

First up, Dry Shampoos.
I choose Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo over Tresemme Dry Shampoo. Although they both are fragrenced, the Dove tends to fade away where the Tresemme stays put. Doves scent is fresh and Tresemmes is very hairsprayish and strong. Tresemme tends to leave a sticky film where Dove leaves no trace of residue. Dove leaves my hair feeling clean and fresh. My love for Dove grows a little more each time I use it. Dove steals the show!

Next up, Shampoo and Conditioner.
I have been using the Redken - All Soft  Shampoo and Conditioner lately. So far I've been really happy with the results. Previous to this I was using the Pureology-Precious Oil. Pureology was recommended to me although I found it way to heavy for my hair type. It's extremely concentrated so you do not need a lot of product.  I found it very difficult to build a lather. On the other hand Redken lathers really well and rinses out super clean. The conditioner leaves my hair feeling soft and bouncy, Pureology left my hair limp and lifeless. Redken takes the cake on this one and the bonus is, it's cheaper.

Lastly, Body Shimmers.
I was given the Bath and Body Works 24K Shimmer Gel and Body  Lotion as a gift.  It is actually a really neat concept, you turn the dial along the top to adjust the amount of lotion/shimmer you want. The smell is very strong which is why it makes the "not this" list. I find the Lush Glitter Massage Bar to be much more of a subtle shimmer. It has a vanilla lavender scent that is wonderful and not overpowering at all. Lush all the way on this one! Click here for more info on this product.

A reminder that these are my options based on my own preferences, hair type, skin type etc.

Have you tried any of these products?

Welcome to the Aveda Fan Club

So here's the thing.... I have a slight obsession when it comes to hair care.  I am head over heels crazy for Aveda's hair care products. This may partially be out of accessibility, but I am definitely hooked now.  I love the look, messaging and mission of Aveda and I can't get enough of the heavenly scents.

I am sure most of you are familiar with the brand but for those that are not, Aveda is an earth conscious company that uses many naturally derived ingredients in their products.

"Naturally Derived: We define naturally derived ingredients to be those for which more than 50% of the molecule comes from a plant, non-petroleum mineral, water, or some other natural source.
Our commitment to deliver high performance, botanically-based products that are kinder to the planet – which is good for all of us -- goes much deeper than our use of naturally derived ingredients. "
Sourced from the Aveda website.

Here are my three current favorites:

1. Brillant - Medium Hold Hair Spray -  Seriously, I kid you not, this stuff smells A-MAZ-ING!  It gives you the perfect medium flexible hold and it makes your hair nice and shiny. This hairspray is for all hair types and even works in high humidity. I am a huge fan, I love this stuff, can you tell? Brilliant I tell you!

2. Blue Malva - Color Conditioner - This is the key to keeping an ashy blond stay ashy.  I apply this once every two weeks or so and it helps keep my blond hair nice and bright in between colorings. This conditioner also acts as an intensive treatment that leaves hair feeling soft, smooth and nourished. Before using a product like this I would suggest consulting with your hair stylist. Blue Malva will always have a place in my shower.

3. Pure Abundence  - Hair Potion- This is a styling product that adds texture and fullness to the hair. You can use this two different ways. One by simply sprinkling this on your dry/wet roots to give your hair added volume. Or you can liquefy the powder in your hands and work it into your roots and hair. It's great at adding that little bit of grittiness to the hair.  Here is the link for more tips and tricks.

Aveda has recently come out with a new dry remedy daily moisturizing oil that claims to add moisture to the hair by 41%.  To use this you emulsify one to two drops  in your hands and then work it throughout the hair.  It is formulated without silicone and contains the hydrating power of buriti oil. I plan on getting this next time I visit my salon. Here is the link for more info.
